Circus Hallam’s core objective is to increase participation in the circus arts, by providing training opportunities for both our members and the wider community, enabling anyone to learn a variety of circus arts disciplines. We have a particular focus on trying to offer activities that are less accessible, often because they require specialist training and equipment.

Our members have had opportunities to learn skills such as Cyr Wheel, Aerial Silks, Tight Wire, Aerial Hoop (Lyra), Acrobalance, Hula Hoop, Buugeng, Juggling, Poi, Diabolo, Devil Sticks, Balloon Modelling, Unicycle and more!

We hold regular weekly training sessions, as well as host circus arts events and conventions, specialist workshops and master classes, right here at Hallam University in Sheffield.

We hosted the European Hula Hoop Convention 2012 and Sheffield Circus Gathering. Our events have included performances and master classes from some incredibly talented international artists. We recently received national recognition for the society’s activities, winning the RBS ESSA Silver Award for Most Innovative Event.

We expect to organise several group trips throughout the year and provide information about many other opportunities that may interest our members, including trips to watch circus shows and cabarets, professional training and master classes, circus arts conventions and other events across the UK and internationally.

We have close links with Flying Teapots (Sheffield University Juggling Society), and our members often attend conventions hosted by university circus societies across the UK and abroad.

We aim to encourage links with other university societies, professional artists, circus organisations and training providers - locally, nationally and internationally.

No experience is necessary, so come along, get involved and most of all have fun!
